Our Community Center focuses on physical and brain health for seniors through engaging activities and social connection!!

Helping Hands Community Center’s adult day services is peace of mind.  We provide a coordinated program of professional and compassionate services for adults in a community-based group setting. Services are designed to provide social connection, physical and cognitive therapeutic activities, and some health services to adults who need supervised care in a safe place outside the home during the day. They also afford family caregivers time to rest and rejuvenate from the demanding responsibilities of caregiving.

Our Program Includes:

Health Services

Our onsite Registered Nurse provides daily monitoring of our members and works with families on related health concerns.

Therapeutic Activities

Remaining active and engaged can delay symptoms related to aging and memory loss. Our activies are overseen by a Certfied Therapeutic Recreational Therapist.

Personal Care

We help with bathroom needs, grooming, eating and other personal activities of daily living.

Social Connection

Interaction with other members is an imiportant aspect of positive well being!

Transportation

Door to door transportation available.

Meals and Snacks

We begin our day with breakfast and a hot cup of coffee or tea. We serve lunch and an afternnon snack based on the preferences of our members.

Remaining Socially Engaged, and Physically & Mentally Active can delay or lessen symptoms related to aging and memory loss.

Fill In Our Online Form or Call Us

The first step in the Enrollment Process is to complete the Enrollment Application. Completed forms can be returned by Alison Sarkozy, Program Manager at info@helpinghandsrespite.org or Mail 201 Hillside Ct., East Lansing, MI 48823.

Assessment and Tour

Call us to arrange an in person assessment. This meeting will include the Program Manager who is a Dementia Care Specialist, and our Registered Nurse, along with yourself, your potential member, and any other interested family members. The assessment takes about two hours. We can provide support for your loved one during the assessment.

Physical and TB Screening

Prior to your loved one attendng the community center, a physical and TB screening must be completed by a doctor. Our program manager will provide you the information you need to get started.

Choose Your Days

Now it's time to join us! The Program Manager will work with you to schedule transportation and other needs. Then your loved one is ready to have fun with us at the community center!

Programs are designed to provide mental, physical and social stimulation. Activities are modified and adapted to meet the special needs of people with impaired memory, vision, hearing and mobility. Various word and trivia games, visual matching tasks, and other sensory stimulating activities help to give our participants a mental workout. Exercise is used to improve mobility and range of motion, as well as to retain and build muscle strength. Discussion, reminiscing, pet therapy, sing-a-longs, holiday parties, and other games and activities provide participants opportunities for socialization. Our activities are provided on a monthly calendar. It is the goal of the program to keep our participants engaged in meaningful interactions throughout the day. COVID-19 Update - Keeping Your Family Safe

Helping Hands Respite Care’s Valley Court Community Center is open and following all federal and state guidelines for for safety and infection control. The implementation of policies and procedures related to COVID-19 is crucial and essential to ensure the health, safety and overall well-being of participants, caregivers, employees, and volunteers. We are in compliance with all guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), local Departments of Health, and the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services.

We have enhanced our daily infection control cleaning to multiple times per day, participants and team members practice social distancing as much as possible and everyone is required to wear a mask.  Entry to the building is restricted to essential team members and participants. In addition, we have installed UV lighting on our ventilation systems to sanitize the air. Every person entering the building is screened daily for COVID-19 related symptoms.

All Community Center and Home Care Team Members have received additional training on COVID-19 related infection control, are screened prior to every shift, and are required to wear face masks. All employees are provided gloves, sanitizer, face shields, masks, and gowns as needed.
